The Cafe

A collaboration with Lee Boyd Architects

Project Summary

The cafe provides a full catering service to all staff, students and visitors to Edinburgh College of Art.

“This was a really interesting project. The old eCafe was an institutional space, that was uninspiring and underused. Working with Nicola Hall at Lee Boyd, the space has been totally transformed. The photos tell the story!” – Ken Colvin, Owner at Solus Lighting

The Solus Solution

Service Provided: We provided the lighting concept, preparing visuals with Dialux EVO for client presentation and supply of architectural lighting to the main cafe area and kitchen servery.

What’s Special? The honeycomb type ceiling limited the ability to move or increase the existing lighting points. Our solution was to introduce a three circuit track that allowed us to place fixtures where they were needed, and the track was configured to allow flexibility. In addition, the track solution will allow the client to move their fittings if they decide to reconfigure the furniture layout in the future.

Technical Details: We specified the Mova track fitting from Molto Luce using a 3000K chip with a premium CRI of >90. A variety of beam angles were used to provide flexibility.
